So here’s the story so far.
“Okay, lets see here. I’ve received the latest ModMic from Antlion Audio. Let me just plug this in and test it.”
I played back the audio and I was just immediately stunned. No, that’s not some YouTuber, “Whoa dudes, check this out! Like, they told me to say this and I’ma tell you! Buy this thing!” I’ve been recording audio for animation and video games for two decades now, and this is probably the simplest and best product I’ve used. Plug and play (reviewing the USB version), and my Windows PC just picked everything up immediately.
So I tried it out. Just speaking some basic lines into the mic and hit play, I was expecting a typical “Yeah, it’s a mic.”
The audio is so clear! It’s just a little headphone mic and it sounds beautiful! Also, it’s magnetic. So if you’ve got something to stick it to, just stick it onto whatever and you’ve got a wonderful quality mic ready to go. There is adhesive that comes with it too, but the magnet is fine for my uses.
There’s an in line mute button, noise cancelling pickup pattern that just works out of the box without having to choose options, and the magnetic connector is even detachable from the base. So you can just stick the base to something, and pop the mic off the side of you need to remove it for a bit.
I really can’t believe just how short of a review this is besides just adding in a test below. This just works. We do so much audio work and for things like audiobooks especially, this is just incredible. Not to mention gaming and all that good stuff. ModMic 2 comes in a USB version which is USB-A with a USB-A to C converter included. It even comes with a hard shell travel case. There’s also a reduced cost 3.5mm option as well. Both retail for under $100 USD, which is absolutely ridiculous with the 3.5mm version retailing at $59.95.
