I name really says it all. I never really understood what my friend meant when she said she played the Switch version while laying in bed. But really, Just Dance is more so about participation, having fun, and getting more out of it by what you put in.

One thing that surprised me is that all of the content streams. Not only that, all of the content is accessed through a Just Dance hub which includes at least the past two years of content as well if you own those. So it’s sort of a catch all thing. Which is pretty cool to have all your content in one place. I mean, I would have loved something like this for DDR back in the day. The down side was we decided to play at my friends place, and her internet wasn’t working the best. So with all the content requiring an online connection, there was literally nothing for us to do with the game at that time. While there’s nothing wrong with that, which at least I assume that saves on system space as well, it did leave us high and dry at that specific moment.

Once you’re into the game itself, it’s flashy, a high end experience and overall a fun rhythm game. What I mean though about the gameplay is, on Switch you just have one joycon. So really you’re tracking one motion per action. Despite the fact that there’s some really flashy dance moves going on, you can really just be like my friend, flake out in bed, and lazily flop around your arm to play.

The lazy way out aside, there’s lots to explore once you actually get a grip on where you are. I did find the Just Dance hub to be a bit distracting. It feels like you’re loading into a console instead of a game. So it took a bit to really piece together what was going on being completely new to the series. My friend even had some of the previous titles and I’d asked to see some of that content. Problem was… we had no idea what that content WAS. So we had to look up online to find the Story Mode playlists from Just Dance 2023 and 2024 (which no, those are not included with 2025.) So the layout is good once you know what you’re doing. But as a game itself it felt more like browsing YouTube than an actual in game menu.

The presentation is fantastic! Bright colorful animations, fun dance moves, and lots of fun to be had with your friends. One thing my friend liked about 2025 as well is the ability to select different difficulties for each player on the same song. Which is a fun way to keep everyone together. I’m not sure if that’s available on all songs, but it was definitely a feature that excited her.

If you’re looking to have some fun, Just Dance is a great way to enjoy some time with friends. It’s fun, whimsical, and one of the few rhythm games still out there. Not to mention the varied and enjoyable selection of songs. Plus there are additional subscriptions or even older versions you can purchase to add to this hub. So the series does have a lot going for it.

I’d say it’s worth giving a go if you haven’t before. Like I said it really is all about what you put into it. The game is fun for energetic friends, parties, and even getting some some exercise just doing the movements.
