Nintendo revealed late yesterday that they are ending services for Miitomo, the company’s first mobile game, later this year.
Miitomo will end its service as of May 9th, 2018. The game was the first from Nintendo and launched on March 31st, 2016. Miitomo will become unavailable at 2:00am ET on May 9th.
The sale of Miitomo coins has already ended.
Until the end of service, Nintendo is offering daily login bonuses of Miitomo coins and game tickets so that users can continue to play Miitomo Drop and use other features such as the Miitomo shop.
If you don’t already us it, you can transfer your Mii to your Nintendo Account by linking it to Miitomo. Its personality and other information will not be carried over. Sidekick Mii characters however will be deleted. You can save Sidekick Mii characters by saving them as a QR Code. They can then be transferred to Mii Maker on Nintendo 3DS or Wii U. You can also transfer Miis into Tomodachi Life on the 3DS.
You will not be able to view Miifotos, including Miifotos you have shared to Facebook. Miitomo-themed icons and clothing items used in your Nintendo Account or Super Mario Run will not display after the service has ended.
While I don’t use the app as much as i used to, I have still been checking in on it. This discontinuation wasn’t too unexpected the game was somewhat limited and there hasn’t been anything big or new in a while.
It’s still disappointing to see another Mii service end. Miitomo follows the earlier termination of Miiverse. Hopefully the innovative and adorable characters will live on.
