The most exciting detail in Dragon Ball XenoVerse is the ability to create your own character. While Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi did allow for this in Hero Mode, it seems like XenoVerse will allow for a lot more customization. Thanks to the wonderful folks at YouTube channel PS360HD2 who posted up the Bandai Namco livestream, we’ve got to see some of XV in action.
XenoVerse lets you go more in depth by allowing gamers to choose their character height and body type, as well as a few other options that weren’t available in Ultimate Tenkaichi. In fact, thanks to the storyline, the main focus is based around playing as your custom character and trying to correct the Dragon Ball timeline. So what can you do with customization?
First off, you’ll have a choice of five races. Those are Majin, Saiyan, Earthling, Namekian, and Frieza’s race. The last of which is quite cool since it seems to have never been revealed before. Does this mean we’ll potentially get more background? Considering the movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F is on the way, perhaps that has been a consideration in the race choice being included. I’m unsure of how many character slots will be available, but I’m looking forward to trying out all five.
As you can see, at least Majin, Saiyan and Earthling have female as well as male forms to choose from as well. I have to admit, possibly the first character I may try is a Majin female. As you’ll see in the image below, stats actually differ depending on your characters chosen gender.
This is a nice addition since it adds even more variety to your character customization. That and come on, just look at her. Doesn’t she look awesome? Then you can even customize her further than that! In the Bandai Namco video they focus on the male version so lets take a look at what can be done with him.
One of the options I took as being quite neat right away was height. Make your fighter smaller like the Majin male above here, and he becomes a Akira Toriyama styled youth sort of character. Again, it’s all about the variety that this allows for. Could this mean we could make characters like young Goku shaped? It seems so from the look of the above. Body type didn’t change him too much, but he does seem to be a decent sized character here after all. I don’t know how drastic the body type options will be on the other races and female Majin gender. Considering she’s meant to be faster, I don’t see male Majin sized females being available. Odds are this option would control muscle mass instead.
The head / hair options seem to be decently versatile. You’ll note that at least for our Majin friend here there is a slider to select more types available as well. That and of course you do have the options to rotate and zoom in on your character. Just starting here alone, I’m sure many of you are dreaming of all the possibilities this game will allow for.
Check that out above. There’s like twenty six pupil options and then you have eight jaw sizes for this guy. Type three here seems to be one of the bigger ones. See how a unique character is taking form here? Let’s head over to the coloring portion of character creation.
Whoa that’s a lot to choose from! As you can see here you can change a lot of options, including even making a golden shaded Majin like the one above. Then being able to change color options for your outfit gives a lot of control as well. For our Majin male here, his upper body and hands consist of three color options each, allowing you to change quite a lot. Will this carry over to other outfits you’ll gain throughout the game? It does look possible! So new gear you get could potentially be edited as well. We’ll get into all that with our next article however. For now, just consider all of the awesome options available to you.
