What looked like a futuristic roller coaster simulator with some destruction physics has become quite a wild ride with some interesting twists indeed! Just released yesterday, the demo gives riders the chance to get into the coaster and actually control it in sort of a quirky racing game fashion. It’s actually quite a cool experience that mixes a couple elements into a quite enjoyable scoreboard attacking title. That’s just the one mode too. Read on for details and video.
The first mode you’re introduced to in ScreamRide’s demo puts you in the roller coaster with some other enthusiasts. Interestingly you can control the ride by breaking, boosting, and leaning on turns to gain bonus points. Boost is gained by running over blue track sections, and then waiting till the last moment to press X to collect it. This works almost like a rhythm game in a way, allowing you to get an early, great, perfect, or late rating depending on your timing. Using your boost and leaning away from turns allows you to try and balance on two wheels while not flying off the track.
The thing is, if you do fly off the track, it’s possible for you to smash through the simulation buildings around the track area and cause them to fall in quite a detailed destruction physics display. This is also used in Cabin Launch mode which is basically a way to underhand hurl a two person ride cabin at targets and cause random destruction for bonus points as well. Sound cool? Check out GameSpot’s video below to see what is involved. The demo also includes a track building mode level as well.
