Corecell Technology released a demo for their upcoming Metroidvania style game this passed Thursday in the Nintendo 3DS eShop in both North America and Europe. The game is another side scrolling hack-slash-em-up exploration adventure title and it looks like it’s shaping up to be a solid title.
AeternoBlade follows the adventures of Freyja, a mage warrior from the village of Ridgeroad who is out to avenge the destruction of said village at the hand of the Dark Lord of the Mist, Beladim. With the help of a mysterious witch named Vernia whom she meets on her path, she must unlock the powers of the Aeternoblade she was given by a dying man in her fallen village.
AeternoBlade has a few neat features built which should make the game an interesting one to play.
The demo only unveilled one upgrade to the Aternoblade, which was the ability to turn back time. When you are in a level you can tap a gear on the screen to reverse time. All of the enemies and any moving platforms will slowly reverse course, which can be handy to hop on a moving platform to reach another part of the level. Some of the platforms need to be controlled with switches and sometimes it’s not possible to reach them in time after flipping the switch. With some other glowing green platforms unable to be controlled this way there is some nice strategy and thought in the level design. I can’t wait to see more of what is in store in the full game.

The full game of AeternoBlade is set to be released on January 14th, 2014.
