Zero Dark Thirty: Map Paks for a Cause

Electronic Arts and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced Monday a cross-promotional partnership in North America that will see a minimum $1 million donation made to charities benefiting American veterans.

In anticipation of Columbia Pictures’ upcoming motion picture Zero Dark Thirty and EA’s game Medal of Honor Warfighter, gamers can actually give back by purchasing the Zero Dark Thirty map pack. A portion of the sales of the map pack will be donated by Electronic Arts as part of their commitment to give back at least a million dollars as part of their Project HONOR campaign. The program was created to drive charitable contributions to nonprofit veterans organizations.

The map pack will be made available for sale in North America in the week of December 17th, the same week which will see the release of the major motion picture.

“Working with Project HONOR is a meaningful way for us to continue our support for combat veterans throughout the armed services,” said Mark Boal, writer-producer of Zero Dark Thirty. “We are thrilled to be a part of this effort, and we’re humbled that EA is stepping up to the plate with such a significant contribution.”

The map pack includes two new multiplayer maps, which are inspired by real locations. The first map is Darra Gun Market in Pakistan while the second location is Chitral, which is far north of Pakistan. Darra is the largest arms market in the world and Chitral is a remote and rugged area governed by tribes that will not allow even the Pakistani army to operate there.

“Medal of Honor Warfighter is inspired by real world events, real operations, and real warriors,” said Peter Moore, Chief Operating Officer at EA. “We’ve teamed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to give back to the Special Operations community in honor of the sacrifices they and their families have made for their country and to connect people to the story of the greatest manhunt our world has seen.”

Medal of Honor Warfighter will be available on October 26th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Pre-ordering the game will see the bonus map pack include in a limited edition.
