Square-Enix released the trailer to Demon Score today, in what they are calling a Breakbeat action game, coming soon for iOS and Android platforms.
The game takes place in a modern day Salem, Massachusetts and follows Serenety who sets out to find her father after she loses contact with him. She heads out to find him where he works, which just happens to be Salem State Hospital & Asylum.
She arrives at the hospital, which resembles ruins more than a medical institution, and meets David … a talking teddy bear.
Just before her father disappeared a mysterious ap called Demon Score was sent to her smartphone. The ap allows her to take control of the demons as they possess her body.
Music for the game is being done by multiple composers including Naoshi Mizuta (Final Fantasy XI), Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts), Keiichi Okabe (Tekken), Hirokazu Koshio (Groove Coaster), Shohei Tsuchiya (Groove Coaster), Kohei Tanaka (Sakura Wars) and Ryo Yamazaki (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles The Crystal Bearers).
Demon’s score is a rhythm action game in which you tap icons on the screen at the right time to the music’s rhythm. The gamer will get more points if the icons are tapped at exactly the right time and Serenity will level up when you reach a high enough score.
Making a mistake will result in Serenity taking damage and the character will die if her HP runs out.
Stages are organized into two parts where Serentity will take on lesser demons first culminating in a cinematic rhythm battle against greater demons. There are also three difficulty settings in the game to add to the challenge.
The game will be made available in English, French, Japanese and Spanish. The title is listed to be released this autumn for Android but is only mentioned as ‘coming soon’ for iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad2). No price point is listed as of yet.
