If you’re a Canadian gamer who uses the Nintendo eShop you’re used to the prices inside being significantly different. The prices from retail games in Canada tend to be between $10-$20 more than their American counterparts, which extends to the eShop.
But it’s the prices of the digital releases that tend to get overlooked. The prices listed online are typically advertised with the American dollar in mind. Canadian customers often get a surprise when they load the eShop and venture inside.
Recent digital release The Chronicles of Teddy for example retails for $14.99. But the Canadian eShop price is $19.59.
Another good example is the Nintendo Badge Arcade. One buy of five plays in the free-to-start game is just $1. If you’re in the United States paying with USD. If you’re in Canada that same buy will cost you $1.29.
Until recently.
Nintendo of Canada quietly raised the prices in the Nintendo Badge Arcade and five plays is now $1.49. The price of ten plays has also gone up from $2.58 to $2.98.
This is extremely unsettling, especially considering the current conversion rate for $1.00 USD is currently $1.29.
It seems that this increase is unwarranted.
