I enjoy Nintendo Video. Sure, I have Netflix on my 3DS and can watch a wide range of content anywhere I go, but I like the quirky content sent to my handheld by Nintendo. But the one thing that I don’t like is that said content is only temporary.
The videos are downloaded to my system automatically and in the background. When there is a new short video available in Nintendo Video a little green dot highlights the icon to alert me of new content. I can then go into the program at my leisure and watch the videos.
But after a short period of time the content is gone, replaced by a newer video. The service only has four videos available at one time. So if you liked a video and want to view it a few days later it may already be gone. You may also miss a video entirely if you aren’t checking in on a regular basis.
What I would love to see Nintendo Video evolve into is a hybrid of what it is now and what Netflix is. Nintendo-Flix, if you will.
Sure, the same basic set-up could and should remain, but the ability to browse through a catalogue of previous videos to be watched On-Demand would be great. That way if something is missed it can be seen, or reviewed.
Recently I managed to catch part two of an episode of the Kirby cartoon series, converted into 3D for Nintendo Video. I was thrilled that the Kirby series was making the leap into Nintendo Video but also disappointed that I had missed part one. There are several other Nintendo Video series that I wouldn’t mind watching in 3D ON the 3DS, including BearShark and Dinosaur Office. Having the option to do so at my leisure would be great.
What do you think? Would you like to see Nintendo Video expand into a Video on Demand service?
